Feels like fall is in the air today.  I love it. Suppose to rain but hung the laundry out on the line anyhow. No rain clouds in the sky here. Since the kids went back to school have been trying to catch up. Our fall open house is September 27, 28, 29 10a.m.-5p.m. I have been making pumpkins out of old quilts, bedspreads. and burlap. Also there is Taste of Home Show in Beloit which I am going to participate in. I have always wanted to go to one I hear they are great fun. Besides that I do love to cook.  Looks like we will be picking soybeans in a few weeks. They seem to be drying down quick. We consider ourselves pretty  lucky the beans received rain at the right time. The bushels won't be there as everything on the hills and around the fence lines just burnt up in that summer heat. Have a great harvest and enjoy falls bounty.

I had to share this. The grandchildren come over on Tuesday and we cook supper for everyone. This one was  our last ho rah before school starts. These penguin appetizers were the most fun to make. We giggled and laughed  the whole time we made these.  Two of the grandchildren are 8 and then 7 and 5. They sure had a grand time and I will miss cookin Tuesday until next summer rolls around and they are out school.

Check out this cute little squatty cabinet that I just finished. Can you believe it we actually got rain today.  3/4 of an inch and I think more is on the way and COOLER temperatures. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Been making little door hangers for fall some in old quilt pockets, on old barn boards, and  in baskets. I am getting ready for fall in the shop. Think I have had enough of  the upper 90 degree days ,besides fall is my favorite time of year. The tomato's are ripening up quickly so time to make salsa and can some up for the winter months ahead. I can't believe it is August.  The kids go back to school in two weeks. Then I'll be complaining were did the summer go? Time sure can fly fast.

Just finished this cupboard. That reflection is me. Hope this weather cools down it is just to hot to work on stuff. The paint dries on the brush before you can even move it across the board. Walked the pumpkin patch again today. I have given up hope that we will even get one pumpkin. The poor things are just laying on the ground begging for water.  Soybeans are pretty sad too. Rain will help them they still have a chance as they are just starting to flower. Been quite the year for heat and no rain.

I have had the fountain running steady. The birds are loving it. It is so dry that the wild turkeys have been coming up to the dog dish at the pump to get a drink of water. It is o.k. as long as they stay out of my gardens.  Turkeys can really make a mess of things. The soybeans and corn are just wilting on the ground. We sure could use some rain. The wheat crop looks like it will be coming on early and I'm sure it is do to the warm spell in March. Kids are out of school and the popcicles are in the freezer waiting for them on the hot days.Have a great weekend and keep cool sounds like a hot one.

I love this cupboard. Look at the mouse hole in the drawer! (rat hole) I wonder what stories this piece could tell. Some one cut part of the top off and it is missing its doors. If only she could talk.

Just finished this piece and thought I would share with you. The red back just makes this really stand out. I actually flipped it over as I thought looked to top heavy with the doors on top.

Check this rock out. It is a good thing I can find something of interest once in a while when picking up rocks. I very much dislike the job of rock picking, But have to say this is a fossil of a find.

They say Caroline Knispel brought a root of this rose over in her pocket in the 1800's. Whether this is true I do not know but I like to think so. I have moved  a root  from the home farm when I married. and again when we built our home. This rose smells wonderful and seems to love its newest home.

Here it is the middle of May. It is a busy time on the farm. Time to plant the beans and corn and I need to have the grandchildren over to get those pumpkins planted for the fall harvest. As this is their responsibility to plant, weed and pick the pumpkins and they get to keep the monies for their labor. They have done this for the last couple of years and they do enjoy it. The weather sure is wonderful these last few days I have sanded and painted quite a few pieces of furniture for Apple Butter House should be able to finish up the benches tomorrow and get them in the shop.
Hope you'll stop by for a visit!
Soybeans are all planted and the ground is dry. Sure could use some rain. Ken is still picking up rocks. I think we grow more and more of them every year. Is that possible? Put a fence up for the chickens. Boy! do they love the grass. It only took them a week to have it down to stubble's. Apple Butter House has been crazy trying to get things caught up.  Been working on an old work bench I think it will make a great kitchen island or back bar. Can't wait to get it done. Finished up a few boxes and next in line is an old pie safe that needs life beat back into it. Country Wishes, Caroline
